The July Sunshine Snippers 4-H club meeting was hosted by Russ and Nicole Allderdice at their home along the Missouri River at Virgelle. Thank you Allderdice family for opening your home to us!
Before the meeting, we shared a potluck lunch of delicious salads, chips and hotdogs.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Garrett L. and we resighted the pledge of allegiance and 4-H pledge. The roll call question was, “Are you excited for fair?” The answer was mixed feelings—some members were excited, while others seemed not quite ready yet.
The secretary minutes, treasures’ report and a very sincere thank you note from the Big Sandy Activity Center, thanking us for the donated craft supplies, was shared. Eryn H. attended the Chouteau Co. 4-H horse show and gave a report on her events and awards received. The horse show had a low attendance this year so Eryn encouraged other members to participate.
Ella, Charlotte, Colton, Emmie and Sawyer gave reports on the fun 4-H camp they attended at Camp Rotary in Neihart in June. It sounded like a great time and a nice opportunity to meet new friends. Bailey L. wrapped up the reports by telling us about her experiences at 4-H congress. A few of the workshops Bailey attended were about AI business, space, communications and what’s in our water.
In unfinished business, we discussed the community bench that has been placed by the Elevating Grains Bakery. It is a great addition to main street- check it out! Finally, we discussed the People Partner Grant deliveries of the craft supplies to the Big Sandy Activity Center as well as a donation to the local Big Sandy food bank.
In new business, we discussed the upcoming Chouteau County Fair Aug 13-16th. The Creative Trades and livestock Auction is Sunday, August 16th. Members can sell up to 5 creative trades items.
After the meeting, several club members and their families floated the Missouri River from the Virgelle Ferry down to Allerdices’ Ranch. It was a refreshing, cool activity for a hot day!
On Friday July 24th, several members in the poultry project attended a clinic in Fort Benton to prepare for showing their chickens at the fair. Colt and Zombie, Oakley and Coconut, Ella and Spot, and Tyla and Angel had a great afternoon learning chicken parts, feeds, facts and practicing showmanship skills.
The next Sunshine Snipper 4-H club meeting will be held in Fort Benton on August 4th at 2:30pm in conjunction with our club helping to prepare and clean the fairgrounds and their buildings.
Club members have been working hard on projects all year long – please come to the fair to support the 4-H youth from our community and county!
