Getting By

August 17, 2016

If your garden has not already started screaming at you that the fruits of your labor are ready to be picked and preserved, it will be soon. Whether you are experienced in home canning or have never done it before, come join us for an evening of learning and fun with basic canning techniques on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6:00 pm to approximately 9:30 pm at the Community Bible Church Rec Center in Fort Benton.

This hands-on class will include recommended, research-based food preservation methods taught by MSU Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agents, Alice Burchak from Toole County and Janell Barber from Chouteau County. You will have the opportunity to experience both pressure and hot water bath canning methods. Additional canning equipment and safe food handling protocols for delicious and rewarding foods to share with your family for many months to come will be covered. You will receive research-based food preservation recipes and resources and take home what you canned during the class.

Pre-registration for the class is required on or before Tuesday, August 30 with payment of $15 to MSU Extension Toole County. Pre-registration forms are available online at msuextension.org/Chouteau and the MSU Extension Chouteau County Facebook page. They are also available by stopping by the Chouteau County Courthouse at 1308 Franklin St or give us a call and we can mail or email the form to you.

Additional classes will also be offered in Cut Bank (August 30), Shelby (September 6), Chester (September 7).
