The Big Sandy Pioneer football team picked up a big win over the weekend as they defeated the Denton/Geyser/Stanford Bearcats 66-31 in a Northern C Six-man contest.

The Bearcats came into the contest with a 4-0 conference mark and an overall record of 4-1. The Pioneers stood at 3-2 but both losses came against highly ranked opponents early in the season.

Saturday afternoon the Pioneers wasted little time in establishing their dominance. Sophomore Kade Strutz found the end zone three times in the opening quarter, scoring on runs of 22, 5 and 46 yards as Big Sandy led 22-0 entering the second quarter.

Big Sandy would match that effort in the second stanza. Strutz scored his fourth touchdown of the day on 16 yard scamper. Sophomore Parker Proulx then connected on a 41 yard scoring strike with junior Ryan Roth to put the Pioneers on top 36-0.

The Bearcats would finally get on the scoreboard late in the first half to trim the Pioneer lead to 36-6.

Big Sandy wasted little time in answering the score as Strutz added a 55 yard scoring run before the half to put Big Sandy up 44-6 at the break.

Strutz found paydirt for a sixth time on a 20 yard run in the third quarter for Big Sandy’s only points as Big Sandy led 51-19 heading into the fourth.

Big Sandy added two more scores in the fourth quarter. Proulx added his second passing touchdown of the game, this time to Clint Darlington from eight yards out. Jordan Schwarzbach capped the Pioneer scoring with a two yard plunge late in the contest to put the finishing touches on a 66-31 blowout of the Bearcats. With the win Big Sandy improves to 5-2 on the season while Bearcats drop to 5-2.

Strutz finished the game with 331 yards rushing on 23 carries with the six touchdowns. Strutz also led the team with 7.5 tackles on the day.

Proulx completed 7-11 pass attempts for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Roth caught the one ball for 41 yards and a score while Darlington caught three balls for 32 yards and a score. Darlington also recorded six tackles, including two quarterback sacks in the win.

Big sandy will look to keep the momentum going this Friday when they will welcome the Power-Dutton-Brady Titans to town.

The annual Big sandy Volunteer Fire Department Chili Feed will be held prior to the game.

Big Sandy closes out the regular season at home against the Valier Panthers on Friday, October 19th.

Big Sandy looks forward to a return trip to the Montana Class C Six-man football playoffs with their seed still to be determined as they appear to be a lock for a post season spot. The playoffs begin on Saturday, October 27.
