Big Sandy art students l to r: 7th grader, Eli Dixon, Juniors, Brooke Schwenke, Faith Gasvoda, and Lainey Gregory.

There was a Christmas Button contest this year. Jessica Jaramillo the art teacher at Big Sandy High school had her students design a button for this year's Christmas Stroll. The theme this year is Cowboy Christmas.

The children's stroll buttons will show the art work of the four students from Big Sandy High school who won. Eli Dixon a seventh grader is the son of Clay and Kelly Dixon. Faith Gasvoda, Brooke Schwenke, and Lainey Gregory are all Juniors this year. Brooke is the daughter of Chris Schwenke and Miranda Schwenke; Faith is the daughter of Pete Gasvoda and Marla Gasvoda; and Lainey Gregory is the daughter of Rob and Leslie Gregory.

For Faith, Brooke and Lainey they are all in art the last period of the day. Lainey said, "the class is an opportunity to be creative and is relaxing after a day of other class work." Faith said she thought it was "really fun to create the designs". Brooke, who told me she wants to be a college professor in art, said, "It really helps with the mind. It helps you to settle down. It gives you a bigger perception of the world around you. You can go out and see art everywhere." Although Eli didn't have much to say to me, I know he was excited he won because he was telling others about the photo shoot.

Roberta Edwards is designing the Cowboy Christmas Stroll buttons for the adults. All Buttons go on sale November 1st at downtown businesses. A full Story on Roberta will be in later.
