Big Sandy junior Lainey Gregory attacks the Bearcat defense

The Big Sandy Pioneer boys and girls basketball teams were at home on Friday night as they hosted the Denton/Geyser-Stanford Bearcats in a non-conference basketball game. Both teams played well but fell short of picking up a win. The girls were defeated by a score of 67-45 while the boys came up short 62-45.

Saturday afternoon they were in Hays to take on the Thunderbirds as they stepped back into District 9-C play. The boys suffered another loss, falling 84-57 while the girls were defeated 71-31.

In their game Friday night the Pioneers jumped out to a early 14-12 lead after eight minutes of action only to see the Bearcats turn the tide and take a 24-22 lead into the halftime locker room.

D/G-S then doubled the Pioneers up in the third quarter to extend their advantage to 40-30 and left with a 60-45 non-conference win over the Pioneers.

The Pioneers were led in the contest by junior Brock Proulx's 21 points. Junior Ryan Roth added 20. Proulx and Roth each hit three 3-pointers in the contest.

The girls will get back in the contest with a strong third-quarter and enter the fourth quarter trailing 44-36.
