Lady Pioneers take the win from the Miners

The Lady Pioneers opened their 2019 season by traveling to Centerville on Friday, to take on the Miners. They hit the court with new coach, Brittney McKenney and the confidence of five seniors, Amanda Cline, Lainey Gregory, Seanna Demontiney, Stacey Allderdice, and hope Gasvoda. The anticipation of the opening game is always a nervous celebration.

They stepped on the court with their game faces on and ready to put all the hard practices to work. The Lady Pioneers played hard and kept up the confidence through the first set, winning it 25-13. They went in to the second set excited with the win and moved on to the second set. It started a bit slower, rattled by a few missed serves and shanked balls, but they kept the moral up great. Playing a strong game but falling short losing the second set 17-25. They shook it off and the third set they meant business. They were not going to let another one get away. Playing a very fluid game, and following the lead of the seniors, the Pioneers came away with the win 25-16. Going in to the fourth set they were in their element and played strong for the win 25-17.

Senior Lainey Gregory, led in assists with 16 of the 16 team assists. She also had 5 of the teams 16 aces. Senior Hope Gasvoda led in kills with 5 of the teams 16. Freshman, Kylee Sternberg had 5 of the teams 17 digs, and Stacey Allderdice led in blocks with two.

The team had a quick turn around to be back in Belt on Saturday for the Belt invitational. They played 5 games ending up in fourth place.

They will hit the road again Thursday, September 5, to take on the Chinook Sugarbeeters.
