School Board met April 21, 2020

The full school board met along with guests on Google Meet for the school board meeting on April 21. They also met on Monday, April 27, but that meeting took place after the printing deadline of Monday morning, therefore, we were not able to cover that meeting till next week’s Mountaineer.

During old business, they showed pictures of the upgrade to the storage room at the FE Miley Grade School. This was the former stage area. The project came $3,500 under budget. The pictures showed a well-organized area with lots of room for storage.

Travis Bauman shared under new business that the new cameras will be up in the gym and the football field before any graduation ceremony, which may take place at Big Sandy High school. He said it was necessary to be careful how they approached the placing of cameras due to new laws that needed to be adhered to. The laws have been put into place because of the distance learning now happening around the country.


Discussion about high-school graduation took place, with no decision until after the Governor’s directives were given and now after the school board meeting of April 27

Under new business, extra Duty contracts were approved. Those given another contract for the 2020-2021 school year are Concessions-Cece Bjornestad, FFA and Ag-ed Extended Program-Layne Taylor, National Honor Society-Heather Wolery, Publications-Shersteen Cline, Pep Band/ Music Director-TJ Bond, Head Science Olympiad-Melanie Schwarzbach, Asst. Science Olympiad- Sheri Moore, Student Council is Shaela Wallen, 7th grade Layne Taylor and Shersteen Cline, 8th Grade Shaela Wallen and Traci Rodewald, Freshman Tyler Taylor and TJ Bond, Sophomores-Kira Witmer, Juniors-Chris and Larry Brumwell, Seniors-Monika Winderl and Melanie Schwarzbach, 7-12 Counselor Chris Brumwell, Elementary Counselor Dianna Keane, and Melanie Schwarzbach as AD.


Classified Contracts were also approved. Those given another contract for the 2020-2021 school year are Randy Bowlen, Serena Cator, Jeramie Erie, Lianna Heimbigner, Lauretta Labuda, Cat Lopez, Cheryl Ostrom, Stephanie Overbay, Cinda Pearson, Kelly Owen, Charlie Sipler, Brittany Sherburn, Cheryl Strutz, Wendy Taylor, Alma Terry, and Richard Thornton.

They also approved making a recommitment to the Golden Triangle Cooperative for the next school year.

Drivers’ training is still on for this summer.

The meeting ended with a short discussion about a grading policy during the COVID-19 epidemic. Kelly Haaland said they would be deciding his once they had a teacher’s meeting. It was noted the Senior’s last day is May 7.
