Big Sandy School Board meeting

October 28, 2020

During public comment, the problem with car congestion by school pickup areas was brought forward and discussed.

Big Sandy Booster club was present and talked to the school board members about the Pioneer logo the booster club uses. There is no trademark or copyright connected with it. They also discussed replacing the padding behind the basketball hoops in the main gym. The design will be done at Universal Athletics. Currently, the Booster Club is thinking about purchasing only one wall; however, there is a lot to do before a design is agreed on.

Student council representatives were present and ask if a school dance could be held in the future. The student council would like to have a dance, and Angel Johnson will be asked. Questions include masks wearing and dancing six feet apart. They would like to have the dance on Nov 19th. Following social protocol might make it difficult, however the school was going to look into it.

The basketball hoop at the FE Miley Grade school is nearing competition. Austin Genereux brought gravel into Big Sandy for the new basketball hoop. They ran into some difficulties with water tables, and the whole project was $15,000 over budget.

Travis Bauman was present by Zoom and reported on current Tech projects. The football field scoreboard is up and running, with a score now available for the class C Six-Man Football Playoffs on the internet.

Chris and Larry Brumwell have asked to see what their early retirement package would look be. It is due on Dec 10th.

The following have been approved to work in Big Sandy School; Rachael Baumgaren, office substitute, and Steffany Genereux, a substitute teacher.

The school board reviewed on first reading a Montana School Boards Association Recommended Policies concerning class fundraising. They also approved the following policies recommended by the Montana School Boards Association: Equal education; Sexual Harassment of Students; Sexual Harassment Grievance Procedure; Sexual Harassment Reporting; Bullying; Student Discipline; Sexual Harassment of Employees; Sexual Harassment Grievance Procedure for Employees; and Sexual Harassment Reporting for Employees.

Melanie Schwarzbach is still getting information about winter sports. We need to stay diligent, keeping facemasks on, hand washing and staying 6 feet apart.
