Superindentant of the Year, Brad Moore

In October, Brad Moore of Big Sandy was chosen as Montana's Superintendent of the Year but just recently traveled to Nashville to receive his reward. Brad represented Montana at the National Conference on Education in Nashville, Tennessee. He wasn't chosen as the AASA National Superintendent, but what an honor it was walking across the stage to hearing his name read as Montana's Superintendent of the Year.

Brad has been a superintendent here in Big Sandy, where his wife, Sheri, works as a third-grade teacher at FE Miley Grade School. Their son Hunter is a Freshman at Big Sandy High School. Currently, he works in Havre as an assistant superintendent.

He was chosen as the superintendent from our High Line region by the other superintendents in our region. After that, the state superintendents voted on the regional superintendents to see who was chosen as Montana's Superintendent of the Year. It was an enormous recognition to be selected.

Sheri said, "It was very humbling, and I was very proud of him." For sure, it will be one of the high points of his career!

Brad gave a speech after walking across the stage. And as we all know, he didn't write down; it just came from his heart. Brad talked about the importance of peer support. When he first became a superintendent, he received a personalized letter from a superintendent in the area, "telling me I needed to go to the superintendent's meeting once a month. I went and started building my network. And through the years at regional and state levels. It's what has helped me stay in business this long. It was those peers that gave him the strength and support. No matter what I am going through, there is always someone who has gone through it. We have monthly meetings in the region, where we meet with OPI, we bring people in for speakers; it's vital!"

"What was cool to me was visiting with the best administrator in the United States for two hours and was just awesome. We all have the same issues and thoughts. To be around this group of people informal was the highlight."
