The Tea at BSMC

November 2, 2022

This plaque hangs in the kitchen as thanks for previous donations.

What's "The Tea"? It is the 411, the lowdown, the news, the happenings... it's the latest here at Big Sandy Medical Center. It has been a while since you've seen regular updates about everything going on at BSMC. So much has been changing, it's time that we keep you in the loop again. People have always been the heart of BSMC, so you're invited to Tea, right here, with all the latest information about our hometown Medical Center. Look out for "The Tea at BSMC" regularly in the Mountaineer. Coming up, you'll get to meet the staff, learn about the upcoming additions to the facility, events, and services and so much more.

While there is much news to discuss, we must start with words of gratitude. Our heart goes out to the wonderful volunteers in the Medical Guild and of course, the community that shops the sale. The annual rummage sale was such a success, because of each of you.

As an independently owned rural facility, there is often no extra room in the budget for necessities like defibrillators and wheelchairs and certainly not for luxuries such as patio furniture and flowers. Since the Guild was founded in 1963, it has helped to make all those things, and many more possible. Updates like new flooring or even fresh paint on the walls have been made possible in part by the Medical Guild as well. This year, as we stare down one of the biggest remodels this facility has seen in the last two decades, the Guild comes through again with donations towards the Kitchen remodel.

The Rummage Sale is the only fundraising event hosted by the Guild and barring worldwide pandemics, has been an annual event for 54 years. They began accepting donations on Monday and stopped on Wednesday at noon. Volunteers then work diligently to organize and display all the rummage before the sale starts on Thursday. It is closed Friday evening and the remaining Rummage is loaded up and hauled to Havre. This is no simple task and requires long, exhausting days from the many volunteers. The staff at the Medical Center appreciate the time, effort, and energy of everyone involved. It is so hard to remember everyone when no one asks for praise or appreciation, so the following list is likely incomplete, but our gratitude is extended to everyone involved. You are appreciated.

THANK YOU to these people, who prove, it is not just our residents that are the heart of BSMC, but our community as well.
