April 12, 2023

The Pioneers had their first track meet of the season in Cut Bank this last weekend. Head Coach Wendy Taylor said, "We had a great first meet which was our first practice out on a track, so we dubbed it our "first official practice" There is only so much that can be done inside where so many kids have limited practice. Some were nervous. Everyone got times and marks, so it was a great start for our season." The Cut Bank Pre-Easter Invitational hosted 29 teams. Since this is the first track article of the season, I would like to state that the top 10 places will be shared in the article. If you do not see your athlete's name, it is because they did not score in the top 10. Some of the events had up to 90 athletes in their event.

Also, as a refresher, I thought I would explain each event at a track meet for those that don't know or don't remember. 100m is a straight sprint for 100 meters. 200m is half a lap around the track. 400m is a full lap around the track. 800m is two laps around the track. 1600m is also known as the mile, which is four laps around the track. 3200m is also known as the 2 miles and is s 8 laps around the track. 100H is the girls' hurdle event, a 100-meter run while jumping over hurdles at a certain height. 110h is the boys' hurdle event, with 110 meters being run while jumping over hurdles taller than the girl's hurdles. 300h: Both boys' and girls' events run 300 meters while jumping over hurdles spread out along the 300 meters.

The Long Jump is a sprint for a certain distance and jumping into a pit. Triple Jump is a sprint for a certain distance, then jumping three times before landing in a pit. Pole vault: (Big Sandy does not do this event due to no access to a pole vault) Discus is a round disc thrown for distance. Shot Put is a heavy ball thrown for distance. Javelin is a light spear thrown for distance. In the 400m relay, four athletes run 100 meters one at a time while handing off a baton to the next athlete. 1600m relay, four athletes running 400 meters one at a time, also handing off the baton to the next athlete.
