Amidst the significant controversy surrounding autism, it's crucial to remember the essence of this discussion. The focus should always be on the students who have autism, and the necessity to respect and include them in our everyday lives. Inclusion is not just a concept, it's a fundamental need. There...

Their lives are dependent on the generosity of...

Our little town on the Montana Prairie has a history that stretches nearly 150 years. This week, I spent a little time looking at our community and some of the landmark and unusual events that have taken place here. On April 6, 1890 Big Sandy received their first postmaster. T.A. Marlow received an annual salary of $150 to run the local post office. Receiving a postmaster was no small deal for towns at the time. For starters, it meant that the community now had a local communications hub. At...

Big Sandy High School was buzzing with activity on Friday evening, April 25, as the annual Carnival welcomed young and old to an evening of fun and games. In the auditorium, clever skits written, edited, directed, costumed, propped, rehearsed, narrated, and finally performed by the four high school classes kicked off the night. All students in each class were cast into specific roles from major to minor to stagehand. Freshmen through Seniors presented their class's skits, each concluding with...

(Editors note: Vern just retired in January of this year. Here is a short rebemberance of his service. Next week we will be ending the sheriffs of Chouteau County) Vern Burdick was born and raised in Nebraska. He moved to Montana in 1993 and started his law enforcement career. Vern brought his values from his first home state. So, I looked up Midwest characteristics and values to get more insight into Mr. Burdick. Descriptors that might explain Vern are hard-working, patriotic, law and order,...
The Pioneer track teams had two meets this past week: one in Choteau at the Choteau Twilight Invitational and the other in Great Falls at the Mustang Invitational. At the Choteau meet, both teams made the leaderboard, with the men’s team placing 9th and the women’s team 7th. The standout achievement, however, was the numerous personal records set by our athletes at these track meets. This is a clear indication of their dedication and hard work. Pioneers, you should be proud of your inspiring performance! Choteau Meet--Men’s results: 400m:...
