Summer is finally here! It has been along winter and it is time for fun in the sun. The Big Sandy Pool is a great place to spend that time with friends and to cool off on the hot days. The pool isn’t quiet ready for our usual June 1st opening.

We have hit some snags this year. We are having some trouble finding Lifeguards to fill positions. We usually are good with 8 lifeguards and some years we have had 10. This year we have 6 so far and trying to find an additional 2 at least. This problem could impact our hours of operation. It is a great summer job for teenagers. Requirements to be a lifeguard are, be 15 years old and take the lifeguard class to be certified. It is a very serious job and rewarding. It is a great first job for teens, but also adults and college kids that need that extra money.

We will try and have the pool open all season with all the regular hours but with 6 lifeguards that will be difficult on some days. We would hate to see our pool not be available to use all summer. We are running a Lifeguard class June 5th and 6th if anyone is interested please contact Pool Manager, Leslie Gregory at 390-6600 or 378-2328.

The Big Sandy Pool will open for the season June 7th. The Pool hours will be 12-4 Monday through Sunday and 7-9 Monday through Sunday. We will be offering a morning adult lap swim 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Swim pass will be the same as last year, Family pass will be $100 and Single pass is $75. Cost to swim per session for the 12-4 will be $5 and the 7-9 will be $3, children under 3 will be free. Lap swim session will be $2.

We are running swim lessons this summer. We are not anywhere ready to say when yet. We have some things to work out in that department.

The Big Sandy Pool strives to be a great summer oasis every summer and this summer will be no different. We are preparing for a great summer it is just taking a bit longer this summer. When we are open, we hope to see the community use it and enjoy it.
