According to usafacts.org from an article called “Teachers in the US face low pay relative to their level of education, which was published on November 11, 2022, “the average teacher makes less than the average full-time earner in every state except Hawaii. In Montana, teachers make 80% of the average wage; Wyoming 92%, Washington 88%, North Dakota 85%, and Idaho is also 80%.” According to the same article, teachers work an average of 50 hours a week teaching and $300 of their personal money on classroom supplies. • The Big Sandy Gun Show brought out a big Crowd

    Erik Sietsema|Feb 1, 2023

The Big Sandy Gun Show took place last weekend and was deemed a great success by the vendors and organizers. The event typically draws several hundred people into the community over the course of the weekend. Those people patronize local businesses, giving the local business community a shot in the arm. The show included a memorial display for Duke Pursley, who was well loved in the community. Some of his engraving work was on display and many in attendance spoke at length about his personality...

  • Big Sandy FFA Goes to Texas

    Erik Sietsema|Feb 1, 2023

The Big Sandy High School Ag Program took 12 kids and 3 adults to Texas two weeks ago to attend the Fort Worth Stock Show. This is nearly double the number of students who are typically able to attend this type event. In addition to the larger number of attendees, the destination of the trip was also unusual as our FFA usually travels to Denver for the Denver Stock Show. I spoke with Lane Taylor, Big Sandy High's Ag teacher, about the outing. He explained that the stock show trips came into...

  • Pioneers take down the Longhorns 52-48, and squeak out the win over the Bearcats 56-54

    Feb 1, 2023

“The girls had two hard fought battles over the weekend,” coach Travis Baumann said. Big Sandy beat Fort Benton 52-48! “A huge conference win! The Lady Pioneers started with great aggressive play from Keira Galbavy to set the tone early. Galbavy had a big board and bucket. Big Sandy started in a press, and Fort Benton tried to frazzle the Lady Pioneers with a half-court set. Jai Baumann made a 3-pointer, with another Galbavy board and bucket to follow. Galbavy also had 2 steals back to back, causing the Lady Longhorns to turn the ball over...

  • Big Sandy falls to Fort Benton 47-42 and roll over DGS 80-53

    Feb 1, 2023

Big Sandy lost to Fort Benton 47-42 never finding their rhythm. The Pioneers found themselves in a hole early; after a very patient offensive, the Fort Benton team jumped ahead with fast break layups and 3-pointers, and the Pioneers were down 3-16. That didn't stop the Pioneers, though. After some big plays from Issac Pedraza, Wylie Snapp, and Braydon Cline, the Pioneers climbed back within 6 points going into the 2nd quarter. Offensively Big Sandy had the floor spread, which allowed for some great passes and assists that Fort Benton struggled...

This week, our hats are off to you, the people of our community. What is a hospital without its patients? It is the people who are employees. But most importantly, it is the people who become patients. The first week of February is Patient Recognition Week. Thank you for choosing us for your healthcare needs. While HIPPA laws prevent us from thanking...
