    Erik Seitsma|May 15, 2024

The Big Sandy Music program distinguished itself at the state music competition last weekend in Helena. The performance happened after Big Sandy took 17 students to the district competition. Seven of those students qualified for the state competition. All seven scored very well, with one student achieving the best score possible in the competition. TJ Bond, who teaches music in Big Sandy, explained the performances, beginning with the district competition. "At districts we had over 50 students...

Years ago, before my wife and I had kids, she would commute about 40 minutes to work every day. When I had days off in the middle of the week or came home from work early, I would sometimes use the time to surprise her. This would usually involve cleaning the house thoroughly, knocking out a handful of “honey do” items, and then making an elaborate (for my level of cooking prowess) dinner. One thing I remember from those days is racing the clock to get everything done that I wanted to do before she got home from work. I remember that I did not...

  • New Sweet Snack Option in Big Sandy

    Erik Seitsma|Mar 9, 2022

Big Sandy has a new locally made snack option. With Easter on the horizon, Samantha Potter recently announced the launch of Montana Mommy Made, which offers a unique fare of candy items. She explained "It's mostly freeze-dried candies or treats, ice cream included." With 3 small children of her own, portable and clean snacks...

Larry's legacy of serving our community has often been an unsung one, as Verla pointed out: "He's done a lot for the community, very quietly. To tell the truth. He doesn't take much credit... I'm proud of...

A while back, Apple added a feature to their iPhones that tracks the amount of time you spend looking at the screen and sends you a report at the end of the week. I usually don’t pay attention to this report because I get so many notifications during the average day, so I simply dismiss them. A few weeks back, I took the time to read the weekly report and realized that I use my phone a ton on the average day. Much of that time is spent using Facebook and Twitter, though a handful of other apps appear prominently. The crazy thing is that I h...

At the midpoint of World War 1, a stalemate had set in. Both sides had established lines of trenches, protected by barbed wire and machine gun nests. This resulted in an unfortunate strategy where soldiers would rush across the field of “No Man’s Land”, into enemy gunfire, and attempt to dislodge enemy troops from the opposing trench. Often, successfully captured trenches were recaptured as the soldiers in the surrounding trenches sent troops to drive out the enemy and recapture positions. Essentially, both sides sat across the lines from...
