Many Reasons Why Deciduous Trees Should Not Be Topped Topping is the drastic removal or cutting back of large branches in mature trees. The tree is sheared like a hedge and the main branches are cut to stubs. Many homeowners top trees when they reach heights considered unsafe fearing a strong wind might blow large trees over. However, the extensive root system of a healthy tree provides adequate support for the tree. Below are a number of reasons why deciduous trees should not be topped. Starvation: Trees need leaves to manufacture starches...

They were all smiles the entire time and everyone including Keith Hanson were so happy to see them. Due to Covid and personal health issues they have not been able to participate for the past couple of years. When they heard that there was going to be a gun show in Big Sandy they took the opportunity to stop in and see some old friends and gun show buddies. They have always been very giving...

  • New Pool Update

    Feb 16, 2022

New Pool Update: Now would be a good time to give! We have applied to the Montana Land and Water Conservation Fund for a recreation grant for the proposed new pool. If approved by the National Park Service, we could receive a matching grant up to $350,000. We have already raised about $320,000 from other grants and individual donations, so we need about $30,000 more to take full advantage of the match. We need to submit our application by March 11th. There is a lot of money at stake in this marching grant, and we do not want to leave any money...

    Anne Denning|Feb 16, 2022

Editor’s note: Part 3 of 3 First dates published: 1/19 and 2/2 You will think that nearing the end of this terrible journey, I was in the clear of trauma. How wrong you are! We arrived in Regina, driving up to the storage center where I had booked a unit. I had family and friends waiting. This had to be a fast unload as JC had to return the truck to Great Falls, boarding a plane the next morning. Organized mayhem. Another friend, whose name also happens to be Shirley, was there with her family. I will call her the “ good” Shirley as she calls h...

  • Lady Pioneers drop a close one on the road in a makeup game vs. Hays

    Ella Jurenka|Feb 16, 2022

The Lady Pioneers battled in a physical game against Hays on Tuesday night. The contest against Hays is always tough as we don’t have the height that they do, but where we lack height, we make up for it in quickness. The Lady T-birds came out shooting, hot-hitting four 3 pointers in the first half, but with the determination of the Lady Pioneers, the Thunderbirds only had a single-digit lead at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Pioneers came out a little flat but fought back within 2 points in the third quarter, led by the sharpshooting o...

    Rhett Simenson|Feb 16, 2022

The Pioneers would open their final week of the regular season on the road against the Thunderbirds of Hays-Lodgepole. The Pioneers would come out hot offensively and jump out to an early 17-7 lead after one-quarter of basketball. The Pioneers would knock down some threes, and the tough pressure defense would force many turnovers and would extend the halftime lead to 13 with a score of 34-21. In the second half of play, the hot shooting and solid defense continued as the Pioneers continued to help extend their lead after three quarters with a...
