Last week, MSU Extension Chouteau, Toole and Big Horn counties held a Meat Preservation Class with ten people in attendance at the Big Sandy Community Church of God. Everyone was able to assemble their own jars of salmon and chicken legs using the raw pack method. They then placed their jars in pressure canners and completed the steps to get the processing started. The weekend of Nov. 11-13, 2016, Big Sandy High School students Dakota Terry and Grace Finke traveled to Missoula to attend the University of Montana’s High School All-Star Ensembles. They were two out of 212 students from a five state area: WA, OR, ID, WY, and Montana. These students were all nominated and chosen on their merit in band. Big Sandy Medical Center (BSMC) is initiating a fundraising campaign for 2017. BSMC is in need of an upgrade to the radiology equipment. Several local companies, foundations, and other philanthropic groups have been contacted to assist in raising funds for this capital project. BSMC's current x-ray machine was purchased in 1989. In west-central Montana, deer and elk harvest reported through the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) hunter check stations near Anaconda, Darby and Bonner so far this season is in line with this time in 2014 and down 13 percent from last year, due largely to unseasonably warm weather and only traces of snow. It is time to start thinking about the 2016 Christmas Stroll. It will be held on Saturday, December 3 which is just around the corner. Stroll manager Marlys Edmonds said that there are many different activities planned for this year as well as many exciting contests to be entered. This year the Big Sandy Chamber of Commerce, who puts on the Stroll, turned to face book to choose a theme for the Stroll.
