It was another strong week of volleyball for our Lady Pioneers. We kicked off the week with a C Squad and JV home game against Power-Dutton-Brady (PDB). The Pioneers trailed the Rangers 16-8 at the end of the first quarter of Saturday's contest in Grass Range. Quinn Rodewald connected with Karter Jurenka on a deep touchdown to put Big Sandy on the scoreboard. Ultimately mistakes in all three phases to the game resulted in 24 straight points for the Rangers. Karter Jurenka took the opening kickoff return back for a touchdown but Pioneer turnovers and mistakes lead to a blow out loss. The Pioneers struggled to get anything going on either side of the ball in Friday night’s loss at Lincoln. Fumbles on the first two offensive possessions led to Lynx touchdowns. The defense was unable to stop the Lynx offense throughout the game, while mistakes on offense ended potential scoring drives. It was a packed week of volleyball action for our Lady Pioneers. We had 3 games in a row, including our first home game of the season against Highwood, a long trip to Hobson-Moore, and a next door matchup in Box Elder. August 29 We kicked off the week with a JV Tournament in Shelby on Thursday. We won both sets against Conrad (21-11, 21-10). We won both sets against Cut Bank (21-16, 21-16. The Pioneer Booster Club kicked off the new school year with an exciting and well-attended event. Community members gathered to show their support as the Big Sandy volleyball and football teams were introduced. Junior High and High School athletes also entertained the crowd with a lively game of ultimate frisbee, setting a fun and spirited tone for the season ahead. The Sunshine Snippers’ July meeting was held at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church on Sunday, July 20th. Most of the meeting was spent reviewing the necessary preparations for the fair, and the Cloverbuds worked on a final activity. The Montana 4-H Foundation awarded the club a grant of $250. The money was used to buy much-needed items for the archery program, including paper targets, metal stands, and a 3D buck field target. The Big Sandy Swim Team's performance at the State competition on the weekend of August 2nd and 3rd in Choteau was commendable. The Pioneer tracksters, as a team, put on a commendable performance at the 9C District track meet this past week in Havre. The Pioneers have several athletes heading to the Northern C Divisional track meet in Great Falls this week, a testament to the team’s collective strength and determination. The Pioneer track teams had two meets this past week: one in Choteau at the Choteau Twilight Invitational and the other in Great Falls at the Mustang Invitational. At the Choteau meet, both teams made the leaderboard, with the men’s team placing 9th and the women’s team 7th. This past weekend the Pioneer track meet went to Choteau and competed against 24 other teams in nice 65 degree temperatures, but also with wind.
