  • Getting By

    Janell Barber|Sep 26, 2018

The fastest growing segment of the population in the United States are older adults. This group is uniquely vulnerable to financial scams. Con artists find them as attractive prey because older adults are thought to have a “nest egg,” have excellent credit, won’t say “no” because they were raised to be polite and trusting, are less likely to report the fraud for fear of appearing to have a weakened mental capacity because they were taken advantage or they do not know how to report it. Older adults need to be aware and prepared to protect themse...

  • My Answer

    Dr. Billy Graham|Sep 26, 2018

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham Q: The world’s approach to life is that we should spend our time securing our future through education, health plans, financial security, etc. The Bible seems to teach that we should live one day at a time when it says: “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things” (Matthew 6:34). How should we live? A: From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham One of the dangers in taking advice is taking it out of context. The Psalmist reminds us, “The entirety of Your word is truth...

  • Feeling Strong?

    Bruce Auchly|Sep 26, 2018

Recently, I watched a Cooper’s hawk take off from a rural, gravel road, clutching a dead meadowlark in its talons. An adult Cooper’s hawk might weigh 1 pound. An adult meadowlark probably tips the scale at 3 ounces. To compare that to a human, a 200-pound person would have to lift almost 40 pounds, then run away. Extra points if you can fly. Perhaps you are physically fit. Maybe you are the strongest at the gym, ran a marathon recently or reupped for advanced yoga classes. Isn’t it strange we do these activities to keep up our daily stren...

    Kody Farmer|Sep 26, 2018

The Big Sandy Pioneers got back on the winning track in a big way this past Friday as they ran all over the visiting Heart Butte Warriors in a lopsided 63-0 win. Sophomore Kade Strutz has been the go to guy for the Pioneers this season but it was junior Brock Proulx that got the Pioneers on the scoreboard first. Proulx stepped in front of an errant Warrior pass and returned the interception 24 yards for the games first score. Strutz then added the conversion run for a 7-0. Following a Safety,...

  • Patching Cracks

    Erik Sietsema|Sep 26, 2018

Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” Taken alone, they’re pretty words. They sound good and are inspirational at their face. I think the real power of a quote like that is found through deeper investigation. Specifically, because they were spoken by the leader of the modern civil rights movement. They gain a great deal of additional weight when placed in the context of a life spent fighting to make the world better. It’s easy to offer statements about remaining hopeful from an...
