This weekend the BSHS music program took the band and choir to the district music festival in Malta. The students were directed by Mrs. Walker who is substituting for Mrs. Robertson while she is on maternity leave with her new baby boy! Brad Moore and Dave Schwarzbach are teaching Hunters Safety again this year. Brad said, "We talk about the prevention of hunting accidents which are caused by 99% human error." Big Sandy has sent a number of its children to Seattle's Children Hospital. Hudson Baumgarm will be leaving to have another open-heart surgery on June 5th leaving Big Sandy June 1st. He wants to take with him gifts for the children who are patients in Seattle Children's. It started as an idea at Sunday School but they knew the community would want to gather up gifts as well. The grade school students can earn a Golden Ticket Award for positive behavior. The idea comes from the Montana Behavioral Initiative (MBI). A group of teachers received training and implemented the program this January. It is a proactive approach in creating an atmosphere where students learn how best to behave. Montana Farmers Union Arrowhead Camp in the Highwood Mountains registration opens today. Although you can register until two weeks before the camp starts the Junior Camps for ages 8-12 fill up within 12 days. The Chouteau County Soil Moisture Survey was started by Judee Wargo in 1993 to assist farmers with determining recropping potential on cereal grain stubble. After 25 years, the Chouteau County Extension Office continues to compile data for determining recropping potential and providing the state drought committee with soil moisture information. It's a sure sign of spring when grizzly bears emerge from their dens on the Rocky Mountain Front. Mike Madel, bear management specialist with Fish, Wildlife and Parks in Choteau, flew over the Front April 3 and located eight grizzlies with radio collars and saw five other non-collared bears. Play practice for " Bed Time Stories" started February 21st according to Vanessa Janssen. Although it has been a "lot of hard work", there are many reason for the excitement in the air.
